HAMBURG – WBC and WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora has said his next fight will be the expected bout against Errol Spence.

Spence last fought in July 2023, losing via one-sided stoppage to Terence Crawford in Las Vegas – at welterweight – but is likely to get a straight shot at Fundora early in 2025.

Asked whether Spence, 28-1 (22 KOs) was next, Fundora said: “Should be. Should be. That fight’s next for us. But I’m not going to say a date, because usually people will put it on social media or anybody that’s doing an interview saying I said this, and then they’ll call me a liar, so I’m just going to leave that to the promoter. But he should be next.

Fundora has been training since April, having defeated Tim Tszyu in March in one of the fights of the year. The Spence fight could happen in Texas, though Fundora is not ruling out Las Vegas.

The Crawford loss, a ninth-round stoppage for the undisputed title at 147lbs, was brutal for Spence, who was dissected by the brilliant Nebraskan. There are plenty who felt Spence might not be the same since, and others who don’t think he’s been the same since he survived a high-speed car crash in 2019, but Fundora has nothing but respect for Spence and will be training for the Spence who cut a swathe through the welterweights before he ran into Crawford.

“Absolutely. He only has [just] one loss,” said Fundora, the 6ft 5ins 26-year-old who is 21-1-1 (13 KOs). “There’s no reason for anybody to be doubting him. He was a champion for a long time. He defended the IBF a couple of times, he unified with [Shawn] Porter, he unified with [Yordenis] Ugas. I don’t know why people are overlooking him. We’re definitely not doing that. We see the same Spence as always, and I think everybody should expect a good fight from him.”
