Caroline Dubois has been named the WBC’s lightweight world champion after Katie Taylor vacates the title.

Interim titleholder Caroline Dubois has officially been elevated to full WBC lightweight world champion after its former champion Katie Taylor has opted to vacate the title. Dubois had been looking for a fight against Taylor to compete for her world title following her interim title win, but it appears Taylor is looking to head in another direction — pun partially intended.

With Dubois now carrying the full title, she will be making a mandatory title defense of he belt against Jessica Camara on January 11, and was presented with the WBC belt during the sanctioning body’s annual convention this week in Hamburg.

“It is a great honour to be elevated to full WBC world champion and to have WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman present me with the belt,” Dubois said.

“It’s always been my dream to become world champion, and this is just the start of the journey for me. I look forward to defending my WBC world title on January 11 in Sheffield.”

Dubois’s promoter Ben Shalom says he believes she’ll remain a champion for years to come and will become the future face of women’s boxing.
