Lamont Roach Snr hasn’t heard any word of the fight being off between Gervonta “Tank” Davis and his son Lamont Roach Jnr.
Roach Snr, like everyone else, saw a post made by Davis on Monday afternoon, in which the 30-year-old lightweight titleholder posted to his Instagram story, “the fight is fucking cancel.”
This was news to Roach Snr, also his son’s trainer. who offered the following comment to BoxingScene:
“We haven’t heard anything. As far as I am concerned, the fight is still on.”
The 29-year-old Roach Jnr, 25-1-1 (10 KOs), from Washington D.C., earned his junior lightweight title with a win over Hector Luis Garcia in November 2023. He has since made one defense, stopping Feargal McCrory in eight rounds in June.
Davis-Roach was originally scheduled for December 14 in Houston, but it was rescheduled to March 1 in Brooklyn, New York.
Baltimore’s Davis, 30-0 (28 KOs), fought only once this year, stopping undefeated lightweight Frank Martin in the eighth round of their pay-per-view main event in June.
“Nothing has changed on our end,” said Roach Snr, who notes that his son is still preparing for the March 1 pay-per-view date.
