WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has taken to social media to say the sanctioning body will review the performance of the judges in the vacant light-flyweight title between Panya Pradabsri and Carlos Canizales.
Pradabsri, boxing in front of his own fans in Thailand to claim the vacant WBO light flyweight belt, was adjudged to have won according to the officials, Zanashir Taznaa (116-112), Antonio Carrillo (115-113) and Malcolm Bulner (114-114) disagreed. The decision was booed and promptly inflamed social media, with outraged cries of justice for the travelling Venezuelan, who could only look on in disbelief at the verdict.
“After a sensational close fight Pradabsri is awarded a majority decision in Thailand,” Sulaiman wrote on X. “Cañizales is a warrior who fought his heart out. I am disappointed at the performance of the WBC judges in specific rounds and I will order an immediate review by the corresponding committee. WBC ring officials are accountable for their performance.”
