Devin Haney is reportedly in the process of winding down his lawsuit with Ryan Garcia ahead of a planned rematch this coming fall

This past Monday, Cynthia Conte brought word that Devin Haney had agreed to drop his ongoing lawsuit against Ryan Garcia if Garcia agreed to undergo VADA testing in their rematch. The following day, Dan Rafael reported that the two had the “outline” of a deal in place with Turki Alalshikh to take part in separate bouts before rematching at welterweight in Riyadh this coming October.

Now, both Rafael and Mike Coppinger confirm that the Garcia and Haney have a “tentative settlement” that they intend to complete within 90 days.

Their first meeting remains one of the most bizarre sagas of 2024. Garcia (24-1, 20 KO) spent the weeks leading up to the bout in what looked like a substance-fueled psychotic break, with many observers berating “Kingry’s” team for letting him compete at all. Their fears appeared to be confirmed when Garcia missed weight by three pounds, only for Garcia to drop Haney (31-0, 15 KO) three times en route to a majority decision win.

News soon broke that Garcia failed a drug test, which he later chalked up to a tainted supplement. Garcia’s mental state continued to deteriorate, including an arrest for destroying a hotel room and an infamous incident that saw him unleash a tirade so racist that even Mauricio Sulaiman elected to wash his hands of him.

Haney, for his part, essentially ditched his WBC super lightweight title after a bout was ruled a no-contest, allowing himself to become “champion in recess” and filing the aforementioned lawsuit for battery.

Alalshikh promised a massive slate of fights for the coming year, including both this and Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr. We’ll keep you posted.
