Eddie Hearn has promised “one of the great build-ups” ahead of the April fight between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank.
The contest, likely headed to Tottenham Hotspur football stadium – the soccer team plays away at Liverpool on that day – has been more than two years in the making and Hearn told Matchroom Boxing: “Very late last night, with His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] and Conor in his hotel, we got the fight signed. His Excellency made the announcement, I think it was 3 o’clock in the morning. Conor Benn v Chris Eubank is on.
“Two years after the first one. It’s going to be one of the great build-ups of a fight you’ve ever seen and obviously, with Tyson Fury retiring, it is the biggest fight in British boxing.”
Hearn said Nigel Benn, Conor’s father, will be flying back from Australia, where he lives, to take part in the event. Hearn also hopes Eubank Snr will be involved.
“It’s a stadium fight, it’s going to be a red-hot ticket, the build-up’s going to be unbelievable,” added Hearn. “We know the narrative, we know the history, we know the legacy of the fathers, but this is a fight between a very young, hungry welterweight moving to middleweight and it’s real personal now. Real personal. You’re going to love the build-up, but you’re going to love the fight even more. This is a proper fight with real bad blood. And I can’t wait.”
