An agreement already exists for Shakur Stevenson to fight William Zepeda in the event of victory over Floyd Schofield on February 22.
Zepeda was replaced as the 27-year-old Stevenson’s opponent at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia when in November he suffered a hand injury that ruled him out.
Against Schofield, 22, Stevenson will fight as a Matchroom-promoted fighter for the first time, and Eddie Hearn explained that not only does he expect Mexico’s Zepeda to follow in the second of their two-fight agreement – there exists an option in their contract to extend that agreement – but that thereafter he hopes that the sought-after contest with Gervonta “Tank” Davis will follow later in 2025.
“He’ll fight [Zepeda] after this,” the promoter told BoxingScene. “Zepeda wasn’t ready for February 22nd, so we looked for another opponent, which was Schofield, and then the deal is – with His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] – that he fights Zepeda after. May time.
“For us, the plan is Schofield, Zepeda, ‘Tank’. That’s the three fights for 2025. We’ll have to see what Tank’s doing, but obviously he fights March 1st, and then we’ll look at it after that.”
It was in victory over Tevin Farmer that Zepeda, 28, injured his left hand. Davis fights Lamont Roach in Brooklyn on March 1, but unlike with the Golden Boy Promotions-led Zepeda – Golden Boy, like Matchroom, work with the broadcaster DAZN – Davis’ association with Premier Boxing Champions and therefore Amazon is complicated in the context of securing an agreement for a fight between he and Stevenson.
