Matchroom are ready to include a fight between Ellie Scotney and Skye Nicolson in their plans.
Scotney defended her IBF and WBO junior-featherweight titles on Saturday with a convincing points victory over Mea Motu at the Nottingham Arena in Nottingham, England. Scotney, 26, revealed after her victory that making the 122lbs weight limit is becoming a struggle, and that she is ready to move up to featherweight to challenge Nicolson, the WBC champion.
Nicolson was quick to reply on social media and stated that she would be willing to face Scotney should she move up in weight. The Australian, 29, is first scheduled to face her mandatory challenger Tiara Brown, but Matchroom’s chief executive Frank Smith would be happy to see her defend her titles against Scotney, should she succeed against Brown.
“Definitely – both girls are up for it,” Smith told BoxingScene. “Ellie [Scotney]’s done amazing things at 122 [pounds]; unified champion; Ring Magazine champion, obviously number one in the division.
“But that’s definitely a fight we’d love to see. Sky Nicolson boxes on March 22 in Australia, but that’s definitely a very interesting fight. Ellie, looking to become a two-weight world champion, Skye’s on a great run. It’ll be a brilliant one.”
