Roy Jones says weight won’t play as big of a role in Canelo vs Crawford as some may think.
Roy Jones Jr spent a few minutes breaking down some big upcoming fights including Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn, Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, and the rematch between Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol. Here’s some of what he had to say on those matchups.
On Eubank vs Benn
“First of all I’m just glad it happened. I love both guys, I have no hate towards either one of them. So may the best man win. I think Chris is the bigger guy and he should have the advantage going in, but Conor is a hell of a puncher, especially with his left hook. So anything can happen with a big puncher and we saw that with Liam Smith and he’s not a big puncher but Conor is.
“So that being said I hope for a great fight, a great night. I think Chris probably goes in with the advantage because he’s a bigger fighter but we’ll see what happens.”
On a Canelo vs Crawford matchup
“The weight won’t be the factor, the factor will be how Canelo chooses to make the fight. Canelo comes out and does what Canelo should do, Canelo wins the fight. If Canelo comes out and does what he shouldn’t do, Crawford wins the fight.
“(Crawford must) control the center of the ring. If Crawford is allowed to control the center, he’ll win.”
On Beterbiev vs Bivol 2
“I think it’s going to be another great fight, another epic fight. I’m thinking Artur is going to be more Artur this time, which is could be good for him or it could be bad for him ‘cause when you go for the kill on Bivol it gives Bivol the chance to hit you with those counters. But when you don’t go for the kill on him you give him the chance to edge the fight out like I thought he did the first time, or be a draw.
“We’ll see what happens. I think Artur learned a lot from it, I’m sure Bivol learned a lot from it too.”
