Shakan Pitters’ European title fight against Daniel Blenda Dos Santos has been cancelled due to Dos Santos failing his brain scan.

Pitters, 35, was due to face Dos Santos for the EBU light heavyweight belt this Friday as the main event on a GBM show in Sheffield, but Pitters will now face another opponent.

“Due to serious medical conditions Daniel Blenda Dos Santos is not authorised to fight until further notice,” an EBU statement read.

Pitters will not have to wait long for his shot at the European title, he will now face Lee Ingelrest for the vacant title on Friday’s show.

The EBU statement also read: “For this reason, being us at two days from the execution date, we exceptionally accepted the proposal of the staging promoter – GBM Mr Gostolo – to replace Daniel Blenda Dos Santos with Lee Ingelrest, who is ready and accepted to fight Shakan Pitters for such a vacant title on 7th February next in Sheffield.”

Ingelrest, 12-0-1 (4 KOs), has yet to fight a 12-round contest and has been to the 10th round just once in his 13-fight career. Pitters, 19-2 (6 KOs), is a former British champion at 175 pounds and will hope a victory on Friday pushes him back into a booming domestic light heavyweight division.
