In the first of a proposed four fights with Riyadh Season and Turki Alalshikh, Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will box Cuban William Scull on May 3, it was announced today.
Scull, a 33-year-old based in Germany, is unbeaten in 23 professional fights and has finished nine of those 23 fights inside the distance. He currently holds the IBF super-middleweight title – a belt he won against Vladimir Shishkin back in October – and has fought the majority of his career in both Argentina and Germany.
“The legend Saul Alvarez will fight William Scull in undisputed fight in Riyadh on the 3rd of May,” Alalshikh posted on social media. “If he win(s) the fight in September (he) will be undisputed again.”
To that, Alvarez responded: “Let’s go.”
Alvarez, 62-2-2 (39), is of course the reigning WBC and WBO super-middleweight champion and previously held the IBF belt Scull presently owns. Should he beat Scull on May 3, it is expected that the 34-year-old will fight Terence Crawford, the world’s best light-middleweight, in September.
