Sebastian Fundora will defend his WBC and WBO titles on March 22 against Chordale Booker.
Sebastian Fundora will defend his WBC and WBO super welterweight titles on Saturday, March 22, facing Chordale Booker in a Premier Boxing Champions main event on Prime Video.
Fundora, 27, will be making the first defense of the belts he took from Tim Tszyu last year, and the fight will end what will be just eight days shy of a full one-year layoff for “The Towering Inferno.”
Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KO) was a late sub opponent for Tszyu in that fight, and was coming off of a knockout loss to Brian Mendoza a year prior to that in 2023. The 6’5” titleholder was negotiating to face former welterweight titleholder Errol Spence Jr after the Tszyu bout, but those plans fell through.
Booker (23-1, 11 KO) is a 33-year-old southpaw contender who was stunning stopped in the first round by Austin Williams in 2022, but has scrapped away and won six straight fights since then, fighting mainly in Connecticut on smaller cards to stay busy.
It will be a huge opportunity for Booker, who really is a talented fighter and isn’t someone Fundora should overlook in this matchup.
The card will also feature the return of Jesus Ramos Jr (22-1, 18 KO), who looks to stay very busy after returning on Feb. 1 with an eighth round TKO win over Jeison Rosario. He’ll be facing Kevin Salgado (17-2-1, 12 KO) in a 10-round fight that PBC are saying will see Ramos return to the 154 lb division, after he faced Rosario at middleweight.
21-year-old middleweight prospect Elijah Garcia (16-1, 13 KO) will also be in action, facing veteran Terrell Gausha (24-4-1, 12 KO) in a 10-round bout. Garcia is coming off of a loss to Kyrone Davis last June, and while Gausha has never been any world-beater, the 37-year-old is crafty, well-schooled, and could give the young fighter more problems. It’s no gimme matchup for Garcia trying to bounce back, and lines up with his insistence through the last few years that he’s not trying to reach the top the easy way.
