Christian Mbilli won’t be fighting Kevin Sadjo, withdrawing from the fight due to financial concerns.
Christian Mbilli vs Kevin Sadjo will not be happening, as Mbilli’s team at Eye of the Tiger Management have announced that Mbilli is withdrawing from the proposed fight due to financial concerns.
EotTTM released a statement about the scrapped IBF super middleweight eliminator, for which French promoter Y12 Boxing recently won a purse bid at $878,000, with 60 percent due to go to Mbilli.
“In the end, the French promoter refused to negotiate anything beyond the IBF’s minimum requirements,” Eye of the Tiger state, and say they are now pursuing their original plan, which is to get Mbilli (28-0, 23 KO) into a WBC interim title fight.
“After careful consideration, we have decided to pursue an avenue that better aligns with our short- and medium-term objectives,” said promoter and Eye of the Tiger president, Camille Estephan. “We are currently in discussions with the WBC for an interim world title bout in the super middleweight division against an opponent who will be announced shortly.”
Eye of the Tiger had requested to have Mbilli’s full purse deposited into escrow five days before the event, but Y12 were “unable to meet this requirement,” and had also been trying to schedule the show for May 8, which would have been past the agreed deadline of April 30.
Both Mbilli and Sadjo (24-0, 21 KO) will now be looking elsewhere, and you can expect Sadjo to find a new opponent for a newly-ordered IBF eliminator.
