Anthony Joshua’s trainer Ben Davison believes there is a “better chance than ever” of a fight between Joshua and Tyson Fury.

The 35 year old has kept a lower profile since his stoppage defeat in September by the IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.

Tyson Fury, in the aftermath of his defeat in December by Oleksandr Usyk, announced his retirement, but those working with him expect him to return.

To what extent Dubois’ withdrawal from his title defence on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol II – he has been replaced against Joseph Parker by Martin Bakole – will affect that picture remains unclear, because Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently spoke of Joshua’s desire to fight the winner of Dubois-Parker.

Joshua, however, previously resisted the opportunity to enter an immediate rematch with Dubois, and Davison, who also once worked as the 36-year-old Fury’s trainer, is confident that their overdue contest will follow later in 2015.

“Yeah, I think there’s a chance,” Davison told Oddschecker. “I’d say there’s a better chance than ever of it happening with the introduction of Riyadh Season, which has helped bring together all the promoters and broadcasters.”

“When you’re coming up in boxing, it’s important to have a dancing partner, and these two have been each other’s partners for long enough now.”

Davison also works with Moses Itauma and Fabio Wardley, two other heavyweights promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions – the co-promoters, alongside Top Rank, of Fury.
