It’s time for promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. to feature his fighter Curmel Moton in the main events on his cards rather than stowing him away on the undercards. There aren’t enough older fans who want to watch the aging, badly-slowed Mayweather Jr’s fights. It’s time for him to step aside and let the new generation take over.

The Undercard is No Place For a Star

Moton is attracting fans to Mayweather’s circus-level exhibition events at this point, and he needs to make him the main attraction.

Floyd must bury his exhibition matches off-TV at the very start of the cards so he doesn’t poison the entertainment. He’s so old and feeble now that watching him fight is interesting. Even if you’ve never seen Mayweather fight before, you’re like, ‘Who is this old, slow guy, and what is he doing being shown on PPV?’

Mayweather’s exhibition fights are terrible to watch, and he’d already stopped being entertaining years ago during his career when he aged, morphing into a Shakur-esque safety-first type fighter.

It’s understandable why Mayweather is still keeping his hustle going. He’s been doing his bank heists for years, and the old habits are hard to quit. He needs to, though, because he’s holding back Curmel Moton, and fans don’t want to watch faded older fighters.

Mayweather: From Headliner to Opener

Mayweather’s exhibition matches are sideshows and shouldn’t be on television. Last night’s event on DAZN PPV at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico showed that the lightweight prospect Moton (5-0, 4 KOs) is the fighter that young fans want to see, not the soon-to-be 48-year-old Mayweather fighting exhibition matches.

Moton destroyed Victor Vazquez (5-3-1) in 55 seconds of a first-round knockout on the card and received the most attention from fans on social media. In contrast, Mayweather Jr’s eight-round exhibition match against John Gotti III was an irritating distraction and unwatchable.

The matchmaking for 18-year-old Curmel Moton needs adjusting because he’s not getting anything out of fighting guys as inept as Vazquez. Mayweather needs to find a matchmaker who knows what he’s doing and will provide Moton with the type of opposition that will help him improve his game.

Moton looks like he’s ready to begin fighting top 15 contenders at lightweight, and it’s not useful for him to be matched against cab drivers. That won’t help him.
