Lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason (15-0, 13 KOs) said that he thinks he’ll be fighting for a world title in 2025 following his second-round knockout of Mike Ohan Jr. (19-3, 9 KOs) on Saturday night at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.
Tonight, Mason arguably stole the show again, knocking down Ohan twice in the fight to get a second-round knockout on the preliminary portion of the card. The fight was stopped after Mason knocked Ohan down with a right hook in round two. The referee’s time of the stoppage was at the:40 mark.
Mason knocked Ohan down in the first with a left uppercut that bowled him over. In the second, Marson finished the job with a right hook that knocked him down for a second time to prompt the stoppage.
Mason turns 21 in 2025 and feels he’ll be ready to challenge for a world title at 135. He doesn’t say which of the champions he’ll be targeting for that title shot. Fans would want to see Mason challenge one of these three: Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson or Vasily Lomachenko.
“2025 is going to be a big year for us”
“2025 is going to be a big year for us. I’m looking forward to coming back home to Cleveland,” said Abdullah Mason.
“Keeping doing the job as I’m doing against whatever competition,” said Mason when asked how does he ensure he gets a world title shot in 2025. I need to make sure I keep getting them out of there the same way.
“When you get the work done, the work speaks for itself,” said Abdullah Mason, saying that he doesn’t need to shout about his accomplishments the way some fighters do. “There’s no need for me to do anything else, calling out names, going back and fourth. As long as I’m getting the world done, it’s going to show for itself.”
Mark Kriegel: “You know people are going to start coming for you now.”
“Absolutely,” said Mason. “When they do, I’ll be ready for it. You got to have a purpose behind every action you do, and you got to make sure it’s a strong purpose or your actions are going to come out as you want them to be.”
