Lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason will face the knockout artist Yohan Vasquez (26-5, 21 KOs) in an eight-round fight on November 8th on the undercard of Keyshawn Davis vs. Gustavo Lemos in an ESPN card at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.

A Step Up for Mason

According to @keepit100boxin2, Mason (15-0, 13 KOs) will take on the 30-year-old Vasquez, who has lost three out of his last four fights. It’s a step up, but not significant for the 20-year-old Mason from his last two fights against Mike Ohan Jr. and Luis Lebron.

Vasquez will have a hard time winning this fight unless he can land a big shot early in the fight before the 5’9″ southpaw Mason has had enough time to start taking him apart. Mason gets hit, but he hasn’t met up with someone with the chin to stay in the fight long enough for them to test him.

The way Mason is fighting right now, he should be facing Keyshawn (11-0, 7 KOs) in the main event. Top Rank will keep Keyshawn and Mason apart to ensure they have two revenue streams. Keyshawn has looked too shaky for Top Rank to risk putting him in with Mason and watching him get decimated.

Top Rank has got to know that Mason is the better talent than the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, but it looks like they’re trying to do the best they can with the struggling Virginia native. He’s looked hellish lately, and his last fight against Miguel Madueno didn’t resemble a boxing match. It was pure WWE junk from Keyshawn. I was waiting for Keyshawn to use a suplex slam on Madueno, and he was in pure wrestling mode the entire fight.

Mason’s Rising Stardom

Mason stole the show again from Keyshawn and the headliner clash between Shakur Stevenson and Artem Harutyunyan. Those two were standing around in awe, watching Mason.

Mason expected to step it up to 10-round fights after this, but it won’t make a difference. He’s knocking everyone out and has scored five consecutive stoppages. The last guy to go the distance against Mason was Cesar Villaraga last year in August in a six-round loss.

Mason knocked out Mike Ohan Jr. in the second round on August 17th in a complete mismatch, stealing the show from the headliner between super middleweights Christian Mbilli and Sergiy Derevyanchenko at the Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.
