Abel Gonzalez made quick work of Alarenz Reynolds in their super middleweight bout at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida, on “Wednesday Night Fights.” Gonzalez stopped Reynolds with a technical knockout at the 2:00 mark of the first round.
The fight was a brawl from the start, with both fighters favoring offense over defense. Just over a minute into the first round, Gonzalez (7-0, 5 KOs), 26, landed a right hand that sent Reynolds (6-1, 3 KOs), 25, also known as Al Stanton, to the floor. After Reynolds got back on his feet, Gonzalez, a Florida native, landed two more right hands, prompting referee Christopher Young to halt the contest.
The bout was promoted to co-feature status after a bantamweight fight between Walter Santibanes and Eros Correa was canceled due to Santibanes missing weight and the two sides being unable to reach an agreement to proceed.
Middleweight Darrelle Valsaint (11-0, 9 KOs), a 2020 Haitian Olympian, stopped Pachino Hill (8-6-2, 6 KOs) in the third round of a bout scheduled for eight. The stoppage came at 0:36 of the round.
Valsaint used a left hook to the body in the first round to knock Hill down and followed up with a barrage of punches that sent Hill back to the canvas. Hill struggled to find answers for Valsaint and expressed his frustration to his corner between rounds before being stopped with a left uppercut from Valsaint in the southpaw stance.
The TV opener saw junior welterweight Brandon McCarthy (2-0, 1 KO) win a unanimous decision over veteran Ryan Schwartzberg (4-15-3, 2 KOs) by scores of 59-54, 60-53 and 60-53, all in favor of McCarthy. A strong jab from McCarthy dropped Schwartzberg in the second round, setting the tone for the rest of the fight.
