The winner will be in line to challenge IBF flyweight champion Angel Ayala
There’s an argument to be made that Felix Alvarado deserved a win over current IBF flyweight champion Angel Ayala and Jake Donovan reports that he could soon earn himself another crack, as the IBF has approved a December 20th eliminator between Alvarado and Argentine puncher Tobias Reyes in the former’s native Nicaragua.
Alvarado (41-4, 35 KO) has long been one of the stronger figures in the lower weight classes, going eight years undefeated and enjoying a solid reign as IBF light flyweight champion along the way. Though he fell just short in competitive fights with Sunny Edwards and the aforementioned Ayala, he’s clearly still a threat at 112.
Reyes (16-0-1, 15 KO) doesn’t have the same profile, but there’s a bit of meat to his record, most notably a split draw with former “Bam” Rodriguez foe Cristian Gonzalez two Octobers ago. He’s nearly a decade younger than Alvarado and looks to have some real pop.
Hopefully they’ll find a U.S. broadcast partner. It’s not often you see this kind of combined knockout percentage below 115.
