Boxing is a sport based on levels, and on Saturday night, July 20th, at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, Amanda Serrano proved her opponent wasn’t on her level, as she stopped Stevie Morgan (14-2, 13 KOs) in the second round.
Amanda Serrano is an iconic seven-division world champion who on Saturday night stepped inside the ring for the 50th time of her pro career. In the co-main of the Jake Paul vs Mike Perry event, Serrano had a short night of work as she instantly overwhelmed her opponent.
Back in March 2024, the unified world featherweight champion Amanda Serrano returned to Puerto Rico for her homecoming bout against Nina Meinke. A day prior to the fight, Serrano suffered an eye injury, and was ruled medically unfit to compete.
An emotional Serrano was very disappointed as she apologized to her Puerto Rican fans who came out to support her. A month later, a big announcement was made as Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 2 was set to be the July 20th co-main for Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul.
Unfortunately, Mike Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up and due to Tyson’s medical issue, the fight was postponed. Jake Paul decided to keep the fight date as he signed on to face Mike Perry and Amanda Serrano was set to square off against Stevie Morgan.
In the opening round of the super-lightweight bout, Amanda Serrano threw a few jabs and then she proceeded to walk her opponent down and hit her with multiple shots to the body and head. Morgan made the tactical error of standing straight up with her chin in the air.
Despite the fact that she made herself an easy target by making a couple of critical technical mistakes, Morgan was able to make it out of the first round. In the second round of the bout, Serrano went into beast mode as she hit Morgan with a barrage of punches.
After witnessing Stevie Morgan absorb a tremendous amount of punishment, the referee stepped in and put a halt to the contest. For the first time in three years, Serrano finally collected another win by stoppage.
Amanda Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs) was very pleased with her performance. Now she can focus on bigger and better things as she is scheduled to seek vindication against the undisputed super-lightweight champion Katie Taylor on November 15th.
