OAKLAND, Calif. – Middleweights Amari Jones and Daniel Echeverria successfully weighed in for their upcoming bout in Oakland. Echeverria, of Mexico, required a second attempt to reach the 161-pound limit ahead of their fight at the Marriott on Broadway in downtown Oakland on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Jones (12-0, 11 KOs), who was born in Oakland, hit the scale at 160 pounds, demonstrating he can make the championship limit. Meanwhile, Echeverria (21-12, 18 KOs), 32, initially missed weight by half a pound but made adjustments within the allotted time, coming back within the allowed limit.
“This fight is going to be one for the books in front of the hometown crowd,” Jones told BoxingScene after the weigh-in. “I am looking to put on a good performance and entertain the crowd, showing them, they have a new champ.”
In the co-feature, Pittsburgh’s 22-year-old Gabriel Garcia (10-0, 6 KOs), who trains at Lion’s Den Boxing Gym and Robert Garcia’s Boxing Academy, weighed in at 129.1 pounds. His opponent, 29-year-old Giovanni Gutierrez (11-9-1, 6 KOs), from Nicaragua, came in at 129 pounds.
