Misfits Boxing has announced that they will now promote 18-time U.S. national champion Kayla Gomez.
The news was announced via a social media collaborative post between Misfits Boxing and Gomez’s Instagram accounts. Gomez marks the first professional woman to sign with Misfits Boxing. Misfits had previously been seen to be on the fringes of professional boxing, opting to pursue social media influencers.
Gomez concludes a distinguished amateur career that saw her win nine international tournaments, including a gold medal at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games. She last competed in December, losing in the finals to Yoseline Perez in the 119lbs division at the USA National Championships in Richmond, Virginia.
Gomez, 21, whose moniker is “The Truth,” accrued many stoppage victories, which isn’t common in amateur boxing, especially in women’s boxing. Gomez, who is from El Paso, Texas, joins other notable amateur standouts who signed last year with Misfits Boxing, including Amir Anderson, J’hon Ingram, and Dylan Price.
Gomez also has 62k followers on her Instagram alone at the time of this writing.
To date, Misfits Boxing has focused more on influencer and crossover boxing pitting social media stars and MMA fighters against one another. The company, founded by British influencer KSI and operated by Mams Taylor, Kalle and Nisse Sauerland, adds an interesting new option for where young fighters could potentially sign, as Gomez is a top prospect in women’s boxing.
A date for her professional debut has not yet been set.
