Irishman Anthony Cacace, fighting on the back of consecutive victories over Joe Cordina and Josh Warrington, will return on May 10.
Already reported by the Irish News, Cacace is travelling to Nottingham on May 10 where he will face hometown hero Leigh Wood, the winner of fight-of-the-year contenders with Michael Conlan and Warrington.
Belfast’s “Apache” is 23-1 (8 KOs). His lone defeat came against the talented Martin J Ward back in 2017.
Wood is 28-3 (17 KOs), trained by Ben Davison, and has endured a frustrating period on the sidelines through injury and inactivity. It seemed that in 2024 he might get the fight he has long coveted, a return with Warrington at the City Ground, the home of his favorite soccer team Nottingham Forest, but ultimately it could not be finalized. He has therefore not fought since October 2023.
In January, Cacace announced he was relinquishing his IBF junior-lightweight title to free himself of mandatories in the pursuit of bigger fights.
Cacace-Wood will be part of Queensberry’s initial slate of fights with their new broadcaster DAZN, along with the heavyweight show topped by Dillian Whyte-Joe Joyce and the May fight between Josh Taylor and Ekow Essuman in Glasgow.
The light heavyweight Ezra Taylor 10-0 (7KOs) will feature on the Wood-Cacace undercard.
