Anthony Joshua is glad about former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk on May 18th.
Joshua doesn’t like how Fury disrespects his opponents and other fighters with his insults, treating them like they’re beneath him.
AJ feels he has ducked fighters. When he stepped up against one of the good ones, he got exposed. He now has a loss on his record and will likely lose the December 21st rematch against Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs).
Joshua’s Relief at Fury’s Defeat
“I’m glad Fury isn’t the undisputed champion,” Joshua said via talkSport. “I’ve always said he’s an idiot; he’s very disrespectful. He has to step on people to make himself feel good.”
Joshua fails to mention that Fury was never as good as casual, non-critically thinking fans had realized. The best name on Fury’s career record is Wladimir Klitschko, and he was 39 years and eight months old when that fight took place on November 28, 2015.
Imagine the 35-year-old Fury fighting someone in the top 10 when he’s 39 in four years. It wouldn’t be a pretty picture if it’s anyone remotely good.
Fury’s Trash Talk and Self-Serving Motives
“The way he disrespected Usyk, ‘rabbit’ this and ‘middleweight’ that. It’s not good for the sport,” said Joshua.
I always thought Fury was just in it for himself and did not think about anyone else helping out the sport. What he does is good for him, but it could drag the sport down, especially if other fighters mimic his behavior toward their opponents.
It could be that Fury’s trash-talking is his way of selling a fight between him and his opponents by playing the villain role. But he goes overboard with that, and listening to him demean his opponents is hard.
“Fury will step on you and make you look like a guy who’s just walked out of a pub. Then he goes and gets spanked; he deserves it,” said Joshua.
If Joshua has so much disdain for Fury, why does he want to fight him so badly? You would think AJ wouldn’t want anything to do with him, given his dislike for the aging, out-of-shape-looking fighter.
Joshua Doubts Fury’s Chances in Rematch with Usyk
Yesterday, when Fury told Turki Alalshikh that he would get the job done in his rematch with Usyk, Joshua said, “No, you want.”
Joshua doesn’t think Fury will win his rematch with WBA/WBC/WBO champion Usyk, which means Tyson will go into a fight against him with consecutive defeats. Why would Joshua want to fight Fury at that point?
