Teofimo Lopez withdrew from a proposed summer fight with Devin Haney for ‘personal reasons.’

A reportedly agreed fight between Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney died nearly as soon as it was first announced, with Lopez having second thoughts and choosing not to go through with the proposed fight.

Lopez has been appearing to be a bit manic while active on social media, taking time to criticize Turki Alalshikh as of late and then doing a complete about-face with apologies to the Saudi financier who has been backing most of the biggest fights in the sport as of late.

The bottom line, however, is that Lopez will not be going through the Haney fight for “personal reasons” as his co-manager Keith Connolly explained in a statement that the proposed August fight date was too soon.

“Unfortunately, Teo won’t be fighting in August for personal reasons that I will keep confidential,” the statement read. “… We planned on fighting but with what was going on he wanted to make sure he was 100% right mentally and physically and August was just too quick of a turnaround. I expect Teo to be back later this year, bigger and better than ever.”

Devin Haney, for his part, claims the breakdown was over a disagreement regarding the weight the fight would take place at, with Haney looking to fight at 147 while Lopez wanted it at 140, with both sides supposedly meeting at a middle ground of 145 which still didn’t ultimately come through. Haney, obviously, would be highly critical of Lopez for his weight stipulations with Lopez was willing to fight Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis at the full welterweight limit.
