David Benavidez predicted a knockout of Oleksandr Gvozdyk at their grand arrivals in Las Vegas. The two fighters will have the WBC interim light heavyweight title on the line this Saturday, June 15th, on PBC on Prime Video PPV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) looked confident walking out on the stage after being announced by a guy with a weird-looking haircut to discuss his fight against the former WBC light heavyweight champion Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs.
Benavidez’s Prediction
‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez says his goal is to “conquer” 175 and 168, and he believes a fight with Canelo Alvarez will happen. It wouldn’t be a proper interview with Benavidez if he didn’t mention Canelo at some point.
‘We’ve worked extremely hard, and we’re going for the knockout this Saturday,” said David Benavidez to the media on Tuesday at the grand arrival, talking about his plans for his fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
If Benavidez loses to the 37-year-old Gvozdyk, he’s never going to hear the end of it from the boxing public because he’s been acting like it’s a foregone conclusion that he’s going to win this fight since it was announced.
Benavidez Remains Focused on Canelo Fight
He’s spent most of the promotion complaining about Canelo not fighting him, and barely mentioning Gvozdyk at all.
If Benavidez loses to Gvozdyk, he will be brought back down to earth. He needs to concentrate on winning on Saturday. Fans believe Benavidez wants the Canelo fight for the payday, and a victory will transform him into a bigger star.
From there, all of Benavidez’s fights would be PPV, and he he would be a mega-star. But he’s not getting the fight, and it’s driving him crazy. If Benavidez loses to Gvozdyk, it would be the final nail in his dream of fighting Canelo, and he would finally give up.
“I really believe it’s going to happen. When I don’t know, but we’re 100% ready to get that fight and get that victory as well,” said Benavidez when asked if he thinks a fight between him and Canelo Alvarez will happen.
“My plan is to conquer the light heavyweight and super middleweight divisions. Whoever comes to the plate, they can get it. I’m ready to fight whoever and beat whoever,” said Benavidez.
