Serhii Bohachuk could be added to the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk II undercard on December 21st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Ortiz Jr. Controversy

Bohachuk, 29, is coming off a controversial twelve-round majority decision loss to Vergil Ortiz Jr. on August 10th in Las Vegas.

The judges gave the decision to the popular Golden Boy-promoted American Vergil Jr. (22-0, 21 KOs) in what many fans saw as a classic example of a robbery.

Rather than clearing up the controversy by offering Bohachuk a rematch, Vergil and his management have decided to move on and get while the getting is good, hoping to land a massive payday fight against Terence Crawford.

According to Boxingscene, promoter Tom Loeffler says His Excellency Turki Alalshikh is interested in former WBC interim junior middleweight champion Bohachuk (24-2, 23 KOs) fighting on the Fury-Usyk 2 card.

A Perfect Fit for the Undercard

This would be a good addition to that card because the event features a fighter who will be 100% entertaining to watch. There’s no word who Bohachuk will be fighting on the card, but ideally, it would be one of the highly-ranked contenders, like Erickson Lubin, Xander Zayas, Charles Conwell, or Josh Kelly.

Understandably, promoter Loeffler is still bitter about Bohachuk’s loss to Vergil Jr. because, like many other people, he felt he’d done more than enough to hold onto his WBC interim title to get the win.

Bohachuk dropped Vergil Jr. twice in the fight and appeared to have won at least six rounds, which should have been more than enough to earn the victory due to the two knockdowns. It was another black eye for the sport.

After the contest ended, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh was interviewed, and he expressed interest in seeing a rematch between them. However, Vergil’s father, Ortiz Sr., said they weren’t interested in fighting Bohachuk again and were moving on.

Given the beating Vergil Jr. took in the fight, you can’t blame them for not wanting to fight Bohachuk again, especially if they’re hoping that Crawford will fight them.
