WBC World Super Flyweight champion Juan “El Gallo” Estrada was upset and stopped by IBF and WBO World Flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez at the end of the seventh round.
In the main event, WBC World Super Fly champion Juan “El Gallo” Estrada, 44-4 (28), was stopped in losing his title to southpaw IBF and WBO Flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, 19-0 (12), at the end of the seventh round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the first two rounds, southpaw Rodriguez pressed forward as Estrada countered. At the end of the round, Estrada’s left eye had some swelling. In the third round, Rodriguez hurt Estrada with a right on the chin a minute into the round.
In the fourth round, Rodriguez landed a low punch, receiving a warning from Referee Chris Flores. With half a minute remaining, Rodriguez landed a left followed by two more punches to the chin and down went Estrada for an 8-count from Referee Flores.
In the fifth round, Rodriguez outworked Estrada, who ended the round with a flurry. Fifteen seconds into the sixth round, Estrada landed a right on the chin, dropping Rodriguez for an 8-count from Referee Flores. Rodriguez came back well, and both had their moments.
In the seventh round, Rodriguez landed a hard left to the mid-section of Estrada, and down he went for the count of Referee Flores.
In the co-main event, former World Fly champ “Showtime” Sunny Edwards, 21-1 (4), won by technical decision over former IBF World Fly champ Adrian “Gatito” Curiel, 24-6-1 (5), over 12 rounds.
In the first three rounds, Curiel was the aggressor, but Edwards countered him well enough to take all three rounds. In the fourth round, Edwards fought with his hands to his side, countering Curiel.
In the sixth round, Edwards countered Curiel while moving backward. A clash of heads caused a nasty cut over the right eye on Edwards’s forehead by Curiel’s head.
In the seventh round, Edwards managed to outland Curiel, with the blood still obviously bothering him. After the round, the ring physician checked Edwards’s cut.
In the eighth round, Edwards shows plenty of guts in landing Curiel for the most part. Referee Mark Nelson called the ring physician, who called for a halt.
The Scores were 90-82, 88-84, and 87-85.
WBC World Super Bantam champ Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado, 24-3 (5), defeated Ramla Ali, 9-2 (2), over 10×2 rounds.
In the first five rounds, Ali was the aggressor, while Ali countered, with Mercado out-landing Ali. In the ninth round, Referee Thomas Taylor warned both of holding. Mercado outlanded Ali for the most part.
In the tenth and final rounds, both had their moments with the fight on the line, but Mercado outlanded Ali.
Scores 98-93, 97-93, 98-93.
Danny Barrios, 15-1 (5), #121, lost by majority decision to WBC Continental Americas Super Bantamweight champ Arturo Popoca Cardenas, 14-0-1 (8), over ten rounds.
The Referee was Mark Nelson. Scores 97-93, 96-94, 95-95.
Bantam Gabriel “Maestro” Muratalla, 12-0 (6), defeated southpaw Carlos “Divino” Fontes, 23-4-1 (19), over eight good rounds.
In the first round Fontes was the busier but got rocked by a right hand from Muratalla on the chin in the final minute. In the second round’s final minute, Muratalla drew blood from Fontes’ nose, who had been doing well up until then.
In the third round, Muratalla seemed to hurt Fontes with a right to the body at the first minute. Fontes kept busy, but Muratalla landed the harder punches.
In the fourth round again Muratalla drew blood from the nose of Fontes who was game but out gunned.
In the fifth round, Muratalla continued to outland Fontes. In the seventh round, Muratalla continued to outwork a game called Fontes.
In the eighth and final round, Fontes had a good round out working with Muratalla.
The Scores 79-73, 78-74, 77-75.
Welter southpaw Fabian Rojo, 9-0 (7), stopped Daniel Gonzalez, 5-2 (2), at 1:13 of the second round of a scheduled six rounds.
In the first round, Rojo dropped Gonzalez with a left on the chin for an 8-count from Referee Wes Melton. He did enough to get through the round.
In the second round, Rojo dropped Gonzalez for a second time for an 8-count. He jumped all over him, dropping him for a third time, and Referee Melton waved it off.
Super Light Leonardo Rubalcava, 7-0 (3), defeated William Flenoy, 3-3-1 (1), over six rounds.
In the first three rounds, Rubacalva had a slight edge. In the fourth round, Rubalcava continued to be the aggressor.
In the fifth round, Rubalcava had another good round. In the sixth and final round, Rubalcava seemed to have an edge in a close fight.
The referee was Thomas Taylor. Scores 60-54 and 59-55 twice.
