Friday, Sep. 27
DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Shakiel Thompson vs River Wilson-Bent. A GBM show out of Sheffield, England. Thompson is a 6’3” middleweight nicknamed “Dr. Steel.” Wilson-Bent lost to Hamzah Sheeraz, another 6’3” middleweight, by 2nd round TKO about two years ago. Maxi Hughes and Hughie Fury are listed on the undercard!
Channel 5 (UK), 2:00 pm ET, Charlie Edwards vs Thomas Essomba. A Wasserman show from York Hall. For Essomba’s European bantamweight title. Not televised in America, but this is a schedule for THE WORLD.
ESPN+, 6:00 pm ET, Sandy Ryan vs Mikaela Mayer. Top Rank show from the Madison Square Garden basement. Ryan brings the WBO welterweight belt. Mayer fights for the first time since a January loss to Natasha Jonas. Xander Zayas and Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington support. The main card will start on ESPN at 10:30 pm ET. BLH will have live updates.
Brinx.TV, 7:00 pm ET, Alycia Baumgardner vs Delfine Persoon. Baumgardner defends her WBC (and IBO!) 130 lbs. title against Persoon, who fights in the US for the first time since her 2019 majority decision loss to Katie Taylor at Madison Square Garden. This one is happening in Fayetteville, Georgia, a perfectly adequate place to spend your first two years of high school, if you have to. Once upon a time, the only thing to do late on a Friday night in Fayetteville (assuming there wasn’t a Round Ear Spock concert) was go to the Waffle House, or hang out in the parking lot by Movies 10 and the big shoe store. Kids today have it much better… They can catch a nine fight card of all women’s matchups instead. Much more exciting than watching to see if Kevin Entrekin would once again scrape his modified “Dragon Da Ground” minitruck over a speed bump! This one is on something called Brinx.TV, and if you can figure out where to find the stream on their nightmarish website, you can hang out with Scott for double-dip Friday night coverage. DAZN, 12:00 pm ET, Ardian Krasniqi vs Saul Ivan Male. A Dream Boxing show out of Ludwigsburg, Germany. Krasniqui is “The Gentleman,” while Male is “Mr. Bad Intentions.” It’s a real Goofus vs Gallant main event! Tyron Zeuge, who you may remember from his losses to Zach Parker and Rocky Fielding, is also listed on this show!
DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Rhiannon Dixon vs Terri Harper. Another Sheffield, England show, at the same venue as the GBM card the night before, but this one is a Matchroom promotion. That welterweight belt Sandy Ryan will bring to her fight against Mikaela Mayer on Friday? She won it from Harper earlier this year. This is Harper’s first fight since, and she challenges Dixon for a lightweight belt. Matchmaking is tough on the women’s side, and weight divisions can get wild. Just ask current heavyweight (and former junior middleweight) champion Claressa Shields! Anyway, Harper is a former super featherweight champ, so the weight cut likely won’t be an issue. BoxRec shows Galal Yafai, Jimmy Sains, and Peter McGrail in supporting bouts.
TrillerTV PPV, 7:00 pm ET, Shane Mosley vs Bob Kofroth. No, not Shane Jr. – This is Sugar Shane, the 53 year old former unified champion with 60 professional fights on his record. He’ll be at a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania casino hotel as part of “Official Celebrity Boxing” to take on Bob Kofroth, who apparently owns a martial arts gym and works as a combat sports trainer. The poster tells quite a story, with Mosley’s photo being from his prime years, draped in belts, while Kofroth’s shows him in a gray t-shirt, wearing what seems to be a fancy type of FitBit on his wrist. Hank Lundy and Kimbo Slice Jr are on the undercard, and Dame Dash will serve as a guest referee. $29.99 for this seven fight card.
