Mexican fighter Brandon Benitez arrived in South Florida and is already installed at the epicenter of the fight that will take place this Saturday, June 29, against former world champion and Olympic medalist Robeisy Ramirez at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Fla.
Benitez and his team shared moments with world champion Teofimo Lopez upon arrival. Both fighters wished each other luck in their fights. Lopez will be in the main event of the evening presented by Top Rank and broadcast live by ESPN when he defends his title against Canadian Steven Clagget.
Helder Medina, the second coach of Benitez, is very confident in the work done to date with Brandon. “We are in the week of the weight cut, and this morning we had a weigh-in at the medical examination that indicates that everything is under what we planned,” he said. The physical and technical strategy for Benitez is managed by the trainers Medina and Cummings.
Benitez came to Florida with the intention of winning this fight and earning the opportunity to compete for a featherweight crown. “It’s not an easy task,” Cummings said. “Those who want to reach the top in this sport must overcome challenges like the one we will face this Saturday. We respect Ramirez’s skills, which is why Brandon comes prepared for a championship.”
Ricardo Cummings is convinced that Brandon is ready for a world title fight. “First, I want to thank Top Rank and the Ramirez team for giving us this opportunity. We know the quality and experience of Robeisy, and we come to Florida with the best preparation to give a great show for the fans and make a significant impact,” he said.
“We respect Robeisy’s team, his amateur career, and his coach Ismael Salas, but this is our time, and we’re going to put Brandon Benitez’s name on the line for a world title fight. Benitez is at his best and we’ll have no excuses if we lose, but I have no doubt we’ll come out on June 29 with our hands raised,” Cumings added.
For now, things are going the best way for both fighters to arrive in the best physical condition of their careers on Saturday night. Robeisy has already told his followers that his return will be “legendary,” and that sets high expectations since both understand the importance of this fight.
Brandon, meanwhile, looks very calm and composed. “I didn’t come to see if I can; I came because I can,” Benitez said when asked about the most important fight of his short career.
We keep thinking that given Ramirez’s home advantage in Miami, that adds extra ingredients to this fight so that at the end of the day, it is the fans who come out winning when they see two fighters with a desire to succeed. Usually, when this happens, the fights turn into a war, and the public comes to the arenas to see precisely that: two gladiators willing to steal the show and eager to come out with their hands raised.
A fight between two young boxers who aim to conquer a title in a highly competitive weight category such as 126 pounds is set to be both electrifying and dignified.
