Junior welterweight Cain Sandoval will face Mark Bernaldez in a 10-round headlining bout Friday at the Chumash Casino and Resort in Santa Ynez, California.
Sandoval, 22, weighed in at the contracted weight of 143 lbs Bernaldez came in lighter, at 139lbs, which is the heaviest of his career.
Sandoval, 14-0 (12 KOs), moved from Sacramento, California, to Los Angeles in December – ahead of this fight training camp – and now trains with Freddie Roach. He fought three times in 2024, his last performance being a sixth-round knockout of Romero Duno in August.
Bernaldez, a 30-year-old from General Santos City, Philippines, has served as a veteran test for up-and-coming prospects and is currently on a two-fight win streak. In 2022, Bernaldez, 25-6 (18 KOs), suffered defeats against Oscar Duarte and Andres Cortes, but he has proven capable of competing against top fighters on the cusp of world title challenges.
