Caleb Plant is once again riled up, reacting to super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga threatening to “smack” him in the face due to some of his remarks.

The former IBF super middleweight champion Plant (22-0, 13 KOs) told his followers on social media that he doesn’t want to hear anybody complaining after he puts his foot up Berlanga’s backside.

Plant is fighting for the WBA interim 168-lb title against Trevor McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs) on September 21st at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be shown live on DAZN PPV.

Plant’s Upcoming Fight & Canelo Rematch Hopes

It’s the perfect fight for Plant to position himself to get a rematch with Canelo, but he’s got to control himself by not attacking Berlanga outside of the ring. Getting in a fistfight with a powerful puncher like Berlanga wouldn’t be a wise move for Plant.

Fans have noticed that Plant, 32, has repeatedly been involved in ring skirmishes with fighters. He seems to be more than he is inside the ring. The last thing fans want is for Plant to end up in jail for fighting someone outside the ring.

“I’m just letting y’all know that this is like three or four times, he’s threatened to smack me in the face,” said Caleb Plant on social media, reacting to Edgar Berlanga’s recent interview comments about wanting to smack him in the face due to his perceived disrespect he showed him.

“A couple of y’all, ‘Caleb is getting into it with this person.’ This is like the third or fourth time he’s threatened to smack me in my face. So when I put my foot in his [backside], I don’t want to hear anybody in any comments talking about, ‘Oh, Caleb, why is he?’ Step to me and threaten me that you’re going to smack me in the face. See how that works out,” said Plant.

Plant has lost two out of his last three fights, and he’s only been fighting once a year since he got a big-money payday fight against Canelo Alvarez in 2021.

Plant was knocked out in the 11th round in that fight, and he hasn’t been seen often since. Plant’s purse for that contest was a reported $10 million, and he’s fought twice since, beating 37-year-old Anthony Dirrell by a ninth-round knockout in October 2022 and then losing to David Benavidez by a twelve-round unanimous decision last May 2023.
