A pair of crossroads match-ups have been added to the undercard of Adam Azim-Sergey Lipinets on February 1 at London’s Wembley Arena.
Callum Simpson will fight the upset-minded Elvis Ahorgah in his second defense of the Commonwealth super-middleweight title, while Scott Forrest clashes with his fellow unbeaten cruiserweight Aurel Ignat.
Simpson, 16-0 (11 KOs), of Barnsley, Yorkshire is fresh off of a second-round stoppage of Steed Woodall on January 11. His opponent, the 24-year-old Ahorgah, 13-2 (12 KOs), of Ghana, has a high knockout percentage but is mostly untested, having never fought outside of Africa. The two fighters who defeated him, Hassan Mwakinyo and Obodai Sai, were among the few he has faced with a winning record.
“I thought my next fight would be at Oakwell in the summer, but plans have changed,” the 28-year-old Simpson wrote on social media.
“The hard work doesn’t stop. Let’s keep the momentum going!”
Both Forrest, 7-0 (4 KOs), of Edinburgh, Scotland by way of Johannesburg, South Africa and Ignat, 8-0 (7 KOs), of London by way of Moldova are facing their first step-up opponents. The 30-year-old Forrest has a significant edge in amateur experience, having competed at the amateur world championships and Commonwealth Games, while the 29-year-old Ignat had previously competed as a professional kickboxer.
The show, which is promoted by Boxxer, will air live on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom and Ireland and on Peacock in the United States.
