Caroline Dubois’ first defense of her WBC lightweight title ended in a disappointing technical draw on Saturday after a headbutt induced cut to the left eye of Jessica Camara brought an early end to the contest. The fight was stopped just two seconds into Round 3 of the scheduled ten-rounder at the ringside doctor’s orders.

Dubois, now 10-0-1 (5 KOs) was on top from the first bell at the Park Community Arena in Sheffield, England and it seemed only a matter of time before Camara, now 14-4-1 (3 KOs), succumbed to her power.

Dubois, fighting on her 24th birthday, continued the trend of dropping or stopping all of her opponents when she dropped Camara one minute into the opening round with a sharp left hand through the guard. Camara, 36, returned to her feet but was in survival mode for the remainder of the opener, taking heavy shots to the body and head.

Dubois dished out more punishment in the second, whipping in her lead right hook from the southpaw stance and following it up with the left hand. Camara had no answers for the onslaught, electing to cover up on the ropes to avoid oncoming shots from Dubois. Camara, her face bloodied and bruised, opened up to trade hooks with Dubois towards the end of the second and clashed heads with the champion. A nasty cut opened up over the left eye of Camara and referee Kieran McCann indicated it was due to the head clash.

At the start of the third McCann ordered the doctor to inspect the damage to Camara’s eye. The ringside doctor felt that Camara was in no position to continue.

The contest was ruled a technical draw as the minimum four rounds had not been completed.
