Chris Kongo and Aadam Hamed took part in the now customary midweek fight card following the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II media workout in Riyadh Saudi Arabia.
Kongo, now 17-2 (7 KOs), picked up his first victory at junior welterweight with a shutout win over John Henry Mosquera (5-16-1 1 KO).
Kongo came out in typical fashion, standing tall and firing in his stiff left jab. Kongo switched his attack to the body late in the round and found success, hurting Mosquera with a left hand.
The second round was similar with Kongo again finding a home for his left hand to Mosquera’s body. In the third, Kongo boxed well at range and towards the close of the round whipped in spiteful hooks and towards the close of the round whipped in spiteful hooks that caused Mosquera to retreat.
Mosquera had accepted his fate during the fourth and threw little Kongo’s way, that changed when Kongo caused a nasty cut over his right eye and the Colombian retaliated with a wild combination.
Kongo saw out a dominant performance by keeping Mosquera at bay with his jab for the remainder of the contest and picked up a 60-54 win on referee Bob Williams’ scorecard.
Before then, Aadam Hamed, now 4-0 (2 KOs), impressively stopped Jesus Gonzalez (3-5, 0 KOs) inside four rounds. The son of British boxing legend Naseem Hamed showed glimpses of his father’s style, throwing heavy shots with his hands low.
Hamed started the contest aggressively, firing heavy shots from the southpaw stance. Late in the opener, Hamed landed a powerful hook that disoriented Gonzalez, but the Colombian survived the round.
In the next two rounds, Hamed started to go through the gears, he whipped in heavy shots with his hands low and dropped Gonzalez at the sound of the bell in the third. Hamed continued his attack into the fourth forcing referee Lee Every to call a halt to the action after just 26 seconds.
Saudi Arabian middleweight Abdullah Darkazanly, now 1-0 (0 KOs), impressed on his professional debut, defeating Jose Aguirre (2-9, 1 KO) by a score of 40-36.
The welterweight Levi Barnes (8-0, 2 KOs) outpointed the dangerous Ramiro Garcia Lopez (8-18, 7 KOs) with a score of 40-36 on the scorecard.
Lightweight prospect Luke Bibby (8-0, 2 KOs) opened the night by defeating Jordan Ellison (15-56, 1 KO) by a score of 59-55.
