Making his debut at featherweight in the return from his first career defeat, Stephen Fulton Jr. slipped by the rugged Carlos Castro for a split decision win Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, on the undercard of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga fight.
Castro scored the fight’s lone knockdown in the fifth round with a counter right hand. Fulton survived and landed 17 power punches in the sixth round. Castro hurt Fulton in the eighth, but Fulton came back again and landed 39 power punches over the final two rounds, compared to Castro’s 23. One judge scored it 95-94 for Castro, while the others had it 96-93 and 95-94 for Fulton.
