Hutchinson came out of the gate throwing punches and switching stances, befuddling Richards while building a big lead on the cards. Through seven rounds he held a 90-43 advantage in total punches landed and a 42-16 edge in power punches landed. Richards tried to mount a late charge, landing 22 power punches over Rounds 10 and 11, but Hutchinson had enough left to survive while Richards had nothing left by the 12th. The judges awarded Hutchinson a unanimous decision, 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109.
