O’Shaquie Foster will have a chance to regain the WBC title after dropping a disputed decision against Robson Conceicao the first time around.
Following the WBC ordering a rematch between Robson Conceicao and O’Shaquie Foster, after Conceicao won a disputed split decision to take the belt, the rematch has officially been set for November 2 in Verona, NY according to ESPN.
The first meeting between Conceicao and Foster wasn’t exactly a thriller but saw Conceicao apply a lot of ineffective pressure, missing many punches, while Foster would be much more accurate but deliberate in his counterattack. But even in spite of Foster consistently fighting on the retreat, I saw him winning that fight pretty clearly.
The judges, however, disagreed, and turned in three official scores of 116-112, 112-115, and 115-113, much to Foster’s chagrin. In the post-fight Foster would say the result was stolen from him while Conceicao said he believed he had done enough to earn the victory.
Clearly the result was in enough dispute to warrant a rematch, which is ultimately the WBC decided to do here. Hopefully both fighters can put on a better showing this time around.
