Undefeated Charles Conwell is reportedly gearing up to face fellow contender Jorge Garcia Perez in a Golden Boy main event next month
The Ring’s Manouk Akopyan reports that undefeated super welterweight contender Charles Conwell will meet Jorge Garcia Perez on April 19th in Oceanside, California, “likely” headlining a Golden Boy Promotions event formerly led by Alexis Rocha.
Conwell (21-0, 16 KO) has spent the last several years treading water, smashing his way through mid-level opponents without ever seeming to really approach a title shot. That said, a win here could change that; Perez (32-4, 26 KO), last seen battling his way past Kudratillo Abdukakhorov in November, sits right behind him in the WBO rankings at no. 3, meaning whoever wins here should be next in the queue after Xander Zayas.
It should also be a solid scrap. Conwell’s knocked out five of his last six and three of Perez’s four losses came by split decision; GBP could definitely have done a lot worse on less than a month’s notice.
