Terence Crawford posted a brief message on social media today, saying he will “Show the world” how great he is in 2025.

The fight that Crawford wants against unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is still not looking promising. His Excellency Turki Alalshikh revealed this week that Crawford, 37, is out with an injury and won’t be free to fight until “after May.” Turki says he wants to start negotiating with Canelo to make a fight for 2025.

Canelo will have already fought in May 2025 when Crawford returns from his injury, which means his only chance of fighting him is in September. Ideally, Terence should fight one of the champions at 154 or 160 to show that he’s not just looking for a cash out against Alvarez.

Is “Bud” Missing Out?

Crawford likely has taken note of the publicity his last opponent, Israil Madrimov, has received this week. He is scheduled for two Riyadh Season events within 63 days of each other, with Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) feeling left out. It’s got to be annoying for Crawford to see the star treatment Madrimov is receiving from Turki and the fans.

Poor Crawford is missing out on the action and seeing ‘Little GGG’ take the limelight. He could wind up as the star of the December 21 and February 22nd events.

Madrimov is being treated like the winner of his fight with Crawford, being scheduled to face Serhii Bohachuk on December 21st on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk 2 in Riyadh, and then against WBC interim 154-lb champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. on the Mammoth February 22nd event.

If Crawford wasn’t on his usual once-a-year schedule, he could be getting in on the action on one or both of these Riyadh Season cards in December and/or February.

Of course, if he did that, he would be expected to fight someone talented, like IBF junior middleweight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev or IBF and WBO 160-lb champion Janibek Alimkhanuly. Sebastian Fundora is reportedly in negotiations with Errol Spence, so he wouldn’t be an option for Crawford.

Bud’s 2025 Vow

Crawford’s trainer, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, said that they’re going to use the Floyd Mayweather Jr. blueprint against Canelo. He says Crawford would be moving on him, trying not to get hit.

That doesn’t sound appealing from a fan perspective because they would purchase the event on PPV, believing it would be an entertaining fight. What they would get is a repeat of how Mayweather fought him ten years ago, on September 14, 2013, and that was a dull fight.

“Get them legs in shape because he’s going to have to use some side-to-side movement against Canelo,” said Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, letting the media know that his fighter, Crawford, would be running against Canelo if they get that fight.
