In the co-main on the Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga card, former two-division world champion Danny Garcia will challenge the reigning WBA world middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (30-3-3, 18 KOs) on September 14th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, live on Amazon Prime Video PPV/DAZN PPV.

This championship bout will be a battle between two boxers who are accomplished and highly skilled. Garcia will try to win a world title after coming off of a 2-year layoff, while Lara will attempt to successfully defend his world title for a third time.
A product of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Danny Garcia became a world champion when he defeated Erik Morales via unanimous decision back in March 2012. Four months after winning the WBC title, Garcia became a unified champion when he stopped Amir Khan in the 4th round and won the WBA strap.
After moving up to welterweight, Garcia beat Robert Guerrero and won the vacant WBC welterweight title. A year later, back in March 2017, Garcia lost his title to Keith “One Time” Thurman.
Garcia was involved in another welterweight world title bout in 2020, but unfortunately, he lost by way of unanimous decision to Errol Spence Jr. Now the 36-year-old Danny Garcia is preparing for a clash in which he views it as being a legacy fight.
Garcia’s opponent, the defending WBA world middleweight champion Erislandy Lara, is a fighter who has all the tools. Lara is a two-division world champion but he’s best known for his past showdown against a fighter who is always included on boxing’s pound-for-pound list.
Back in July 2014, Erislandy Lara stepped inside the ring to face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Lara was very successful throughout the course of the fight as he utilized feints, the southpaw jab, masterful footwork, and sharp counter shots.
At the conclusion of the 12-round contest, Canelo Alvarez was awarded the split-decision victory. Many fight fans and boxing pundits labeled the fight as a robbery, due to the fact that they believed Lara did enough to win the match.
The Cuban boxer Erislandy Lara would go on to become a two-weight world champion. Currently the 41-year-old Lara is on the verge of making his third middleweight title defense against a man who is fighting for the purpose of enhancing his legacy.
Danny “Swift” Garcia (37-3, 21 KOs) will step inside the squared circle on Saturday night with the intent of becoming a three-division world champion. During an interview with Boxing Social, Garcia was asked what would defeating Erislandy Lara mean to him, and he responded by stating:
“It would mean the world to me. You know this is my dream right here. Everyone don’t achieve their dreams. You know I already did it two times in two weight classes, and the third one, the third time is the charm.”
On the night of September 14th, under the bright lights, Danny Garcia’s goal is to defeat Lara and become a three-division world champion. Garcia wants to win, and he would like to do it in a way that’s never been done before.
“I would love to be the first person to stop Lara,” Garcia said. “I’ve been the first person to stop a lot of fighters, and to me, if I could stop him and just for sure guarantee that championship, that’ll be the icing on the cake.”
