Keyshawn Davis came in just under the super lightweight limit for tomorrow’s lightweight title defense against Edwin De Los Santos
Keyshawn Davis’ title reign is over without a single defense, as the former Olympian weighed in at a staggering 139.3 pounds for tomorrow night’s clash with Edwin De Los Santos.
Davis (13-0, 9 KO), 26, claims he simply “outgrew” the division.

Davis previously came in nearly a full pound under 135 in his recent victories over Gustavo Lemos and Denys Berinchyk, but I’ve seen plenty of fit, committed athletes’ bodies just stop being able to handle the cut. The size of the miss suggests to me that he didn’t try to completely juice himself and instead realized he wasn’t going to make it and just got low enough to ensure the commission wouldn’t cancel the fight.
De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KO), who had no issues on the scale, can still claim the belt if he emerges victorious.
Sam Noakes, Abdullah Mason, and (somehow) Gabriel Flores Jr own the top three spots in the WBO’s rankings as of May 26th. Mason fights Jeremia Nakathila tomorrow evening, while Noakes picked up a quick knockout last month. It’d be a very ambitious move to have them fight for the now-vacant belt, but Top Rank and Queensberry are no strangers to linking up for big events, so it’s probably doable.
