Basildon’s Danny Dignum, 16-1-1 (9 KOs), and Denzel Bentley, 18-3-1 (15 KOs), of Battersea both successfully made the middleweight limit ahead of the contest that headlines Saturday night’s Queensberry promotion at London’s York Hall.
Bentley and Dignum both came up short in fights with the unified WBO and IBF middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly. Both are acutely aware that defeat could have a catastrophic affect on their hopes of returning to world level.
Dignum tipped the scales at 159lbs 1oz. Bentley weighed in at 158lbs 2oz.
Southampton’s Ryan Garner, 14-0 (8 KOs), initially came in 2oz above the super-featherweight limit for his fight with Liam Dillon. Garner got back on the scales a few minutes later and successfully made the 130lbs limit for what many consider his breakout opportunity.
There were no such issues for the former southern area, English and British super-featherweight champion Dillon, 13-1-1 (3 KOs). The 28 year old weighed in at 129lbs 5oz and will view the talented but relatively untested Garner as the ideal opponent to get back into the British title mix.
Italy’s Francesco Grandelli, 18-2-2 (4 KOs), scaled 125lbs 5oz for his fight with Nathaniel Collins. The 29 year old from Cambiano won the title last December and moves straight into a tricky looking defence against British and Commonwealth champion Collins, 14-0 (7 KOs), who also weighed in at 125lbs 5oz.
The talented southpaw from Bearsden has been asking for a step up in opposition, and knows that beating Grandelli will put him in prime position for a shot at the European title.
