Former unified lightweight champion Devin Haney has revealed that he is in London to meet with Turki Alalshikh to discuss the possibility of Haney fighting on a Riyadh Season card.

Haney hasn’t fought since his controversial contest against Ryan Garcia last April, when Haney was dropped three times and beaten by Garcia before the bout was ruled a no-contest because Garcia tested positive for a banned substance.

Haney, who has since been declared the WBC’s “junior welterweight champion in recess,” recently revealed on social media that he will be returning to the ring in March. Promotional outfit BLK Prime was quick to claim Haney, a Las Vegas resident by way of San Francisco, would be fighting on its platform on March 24, but Haney, speaking at a public workout at London’s Peacock Gym, said that he had arrived in the UK to discuss another option for a return.

“It’s a possibility,” Haney said of next fighting on an Alalshikh-engineered Riyadh Season card. “BLK Prime has a good opportunity for me in March – they offered me something – but now His Excellency has called a meeting for a fight, so we’ll see if we can iron something out while I’m here.

“I don’t have no news on my next opponent yet,” Haney said. “We are looking at some guys. That’s why I’m here, to meet with [Alalshikh]. We’ll see.”

There had been reports on social media that Haney was being lined up for a potential bout with former two-division titleholder Adrien Broner for his return in March.

“That’s not true, but it’s possible,” said Haney.
