Devin Haney is back in the gym as 2025 nears and he gears up for a return to action.

Former two-division champion Devin Haney is back in the gym, as 2025 nears and he likely gears up for a return to the ring in the spring.

Haney, 26, hasn’t fought since his hugely controversial bout with Ryan Garcia on April 20 of this year, where Garcia dropped Haney three times and won a majority decision in Brooklyn. The fight was later changed to a no-contest after Garcia failed drug tests and was suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission.

Garcia had also badly missed weight for the fight, which was too much of a money-generator to simply cancel at the last minute.

Haney indicated then that he would not box again for a year, which seems to give an obvious idea of what he wants his next fight to be.

Whether Haney (31-0, 15 KO) can get the terms right to face Garcia (24-1, 20 KO) again is another matter. It’s hard to imagine Garcia ever even trying to fight at 140 lbs again, and Haney has never fought over that weight, though he had expressed desire to move to 147 before the bout with Garcia.

There is probably an amount of money that makes it worthwhile for Haney to take the fight at 147 — or, perhaps, a catch-weight, like 144 or 145 — but it also remains to be seen where Garcia is going to be at in terms of his own career when the suspension expires in mid-April. The 26-year-old Garcia tried to schedule an exhibition in Japan for the end of December, but came down with an injury right after Golden Boy made a stink about his contract and having not approved his participation in the event.
