Commentator Spencer Oliver predicts Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois may only last three rounds in their twelve-round heavyweight clash on September 21st at Wembley Stadium in London.
Dubois = Threat to AJ’s Path to Fury
Dubois, 26, has the youth, power, courage, and aggressiveness to defeat Joshua and send him into the Tyson Fury on a sour note. The young lion Dubois is ready to destroy Joshua’s carefully constructed legacy on September 21st and send him into the Fury fight under a black cloud with a knockout loss.
His Excellency will have his work cut out for him trying to sell Fury-Joshua on PPV with AJ coming off a KO defeat against Dubois. He would almost have to insist Joshua run it back with Dubois.
Joshua’s Sheltered Career
Although the 34-year-old Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) is the favorite, he hasn’t fought anyone in their mid-20s for almost a decade and has been feasting on lucky older fighters picked out for him to get guaranteed wins.
Joshua’s timing is terrible to fight a youngster because he’s got the Tyson Fury match that His Excellency wants to happen in AJ’s next fight in early 2025.
AJ has been coasting on easy wins, which were carefully selected for him. The choice of opponents that Joshua has fought has kept him near the top of the heavyweight division, and things would have been different if he’d been thrown in with the young Lions all these years.
Potential Early Knockout
“We often say, ‘Styles make fights.’ Do you think the style of these two fighters brings out an absolutely phenomenal fight?” said Simon Jordan to talkSport Boxing about the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois heavyweight contest on September 21st at Wembley Stadium.
Dubois only fights one way, and that’s to seek and destroy. That’s not good for Joshua because he’s been fighting opposition that hung back, allowing him to fire shots without worrying about much coming back. Dubois will be different.
“Absolutely. This could be a three-round fight,” said Spencer Oliver. “I truly believe that because stylistically, they will go straight at it. Anthony Joshua doesn’t move on the back foot nor does Daniel Dubois.
It could be a three-round fight if Joshua can’t take the heavy shots that Dubois is hitting him with because the punches that Daniel was landing on his last opponent, Filip Hrgovic, would put AJ in trouble from the get-go on September 21st. Hrgovic crumbled fast once Dubois started putting hands on him in their fight on June 1st.
“Daniel Dubois will be more aggressive than Anthony Joshua, but he has to be careful that he doesn’t walk onto one in the process. But Joshua is equally aggressive as well. It will be a very explosive fight. I don’t believe it probably goes three,” said Oliver.
