Recent super-middleweight title challenger Edgar Berlanga is being pointed to a March 8 main event in Puerto Rico as he makes his first appearance since going the distance with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in September, officials told BoxingScene Wednesday.
Berlanga’s card – a sort of homecoming given his familial roots in the territory – will be streamed by DAZN.
Berlanga 22-1 (17 KOs) is expected to meet someone outside the multiple top-15 rankings, relying on the bout to move on cleanly from the Alvarez fight and proceed toward bigger fights, as the likes of former champion Caleb Plant, WBO No. 1 ranked Diego Pacheco and Mexico’s Jaime Munguia have been linked to potential 2025 dates with Berlanga, 27.
Officials connected to the Berlanga bout said finalizing some venue logistics and settling on one of two finalists were necessary before formalizing the card.
