The 37th edition of the annual Primo Carnera Memorial goes ahead in the champ’s hometown of Sequals (Italy) and as usual the week-long festivities are topped by a show. It is on July 14 and promoted by Mario Loreni’s PromoBoxe Italia. In the main event middleweight Samuel Nmomah (19-0) defends the WBC International Silver title against Ukrainian Oleksandr Shytyi (8-1-2).

Former multiple cruiser champ Marco Huck (42-5-1) will return on June 29 at the Estrel Congress Center in Berlin against Evgenios Lazaridis (19-5).

Huck moved up to heavyweight after losing to Oleksandr Usyk in 2017 but his career there never took off. He’s now been inactive since 2020 but had fights lined up both in 2021 (when he was official challenger for then EBU champ Joe Joyce) and in 2023 when he withdrew due to an injury. (Lazaridis was the supposed opponent then as well).

Cruiserweight Goran Babic (8-2-2) was knocked down in the first round against Jonathan Kogasso in their fight on April 23 and as he fell he injured the cruciate ligament in one leg. Two more knockdowns followed, the fight was stopped and the title was gone.

Babic is back home in Stockholm, Sweden, and working as usual but will have surgery later this month and hopes to be back quicker than famed football (soccer) player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who took seven months to get back after a similar injury.
