Ryan Garcia and his promoter face a litigation from Fanmio as he looks towards Rolando Romero fight.

Both Ryan Garcia and his Golden Boy promoter are being sued by Fanmio over a planned December 2024 event that was supposed to feature Garcia fighting Rukiya Anpo in Japan. Garcia would ultimately withdraw from the fight citing a wrist injury, and while it was thought at the time to just be a postponement, Garcia has since signed a deal to fight Rolando Romero on May 2nd.

Fanmio believes that contractually Garcia needs to fulfill his obligation with them before he’s able to proceed with another fight as the company alleges fraudulent inducement, tortious interference and breach of contract, among other claims levied against Garcia and his promoter.

“Despite receiving payment and the promotion being well underway, Fanmio was deceived into organizing an event in which Ryan never intended to participate,” the statement read. “In addition, Golden Boy Promotions actively worked to sabotage the event. … Despite Ryan’s exclusivity to the event, he is set to fight on May 2 in Times Square, disregarding his contractual obligations.”

Garcia’s attorney Guadalupe Valencia tells ESPN that the claims against his client have no merit and that they will issue a formal response when the time is right. Golden Boy has no official comment at this time but had seemingly always been against the Anpo fight taking place.
