Filip Hrgovic took a solid points win over Joe Joyce in Manchester.

Filip Hrgovic got back in the win column today, winning a clear decision over Joe Joyce in Manchester, England.

Hrgovic (18-1, 14 KO) took the fight on scores of 96-95, 97-93, and 98-92, despite a very game effort from Joyce (16-4, 15 KO), who lost for the fourth time in his last five fights.

Hrgovic was a late replacement for Dillian Whyte, who pulled out with an injury.

At 39, Joyce will have to strongly consider how much his career is worth continuing at this point, while the 32-year-old Hrgovic stays at least ostensibly in heavyweight contention.

On the undercard

David Adeleye scored a TKO win over Jeamie TKV to win the vacant British heavyweight title. Some controversy in the stoppage, as TKV and his corner felt that the referee had called for a break before TKV was dropped, but likely won’t amount to much. BBBofC might consider giving officials a mandatory refresher course, but then maybe that wouldn’t amount to much either. Probably not, really. Adeleye improves to 14-1 (13 KO), with TKV dropping to 8-2 (5 KO).

Jack Rafferty retained his Commonwealth 140 lb title with a fifth round TKO win over Cory O’Regan, a predictable outcome with the 29-year-old O’Regan (14-1, 3 KO) stepping up big in competition. But the underdog showed some class, too, and Rafferty (26-0, 17 KO) is never going to be Mr. Skills. He does have legit power, though, and that proved out, as it probably usually will at this level.

Heavyweight Delicious Orie didn’t exactly blow the roof off in his pro debut, winning on points over four shutout rounds against Milos Veletic (3-8, 1 KO). The Bosnian fighter either showed a really good chin or Orie wasn’t bringing too much thunder. Orie was a 2024 Olympian, not exactly a great standout for that level. He’s 27, which is old for most prospects but still quite young for a heavyweight, and he does come in with some good experience behind him from the amateur ranks. We’ll see what the future holds, but at the moment the ceiling isn’t sky high or anything.
